Introduction
Yes, it's that time again; we are in dire need of more volunteers to help moderate our forum and ensure that all members behave according to our Forum Rules.

Deadline
Applications are due by June 27, 2017 at 11:59PM GASR time

Please read through the entirety of this post before applying.
If you have any questions please direct them to either @Mar or @Chelly and they will happily answer your questions!
Selection Process
This time around the selection process will work differently.

We will sort through the best applications like usual however, the chosen members will go through a testing period as Trainee Moderators.  They will all have a grey colour and frame, placed on the staff list, have full access to the forum, and be able to respond to user PMs, but they will not have an area of expertise (art shop, art theft, etc).

This means that if you apply for more than one area, you will later get to choose, along with the moderators, the position you believe better suits you and the team environment after the trial period.  If you don't like being a moderator, you can step down at any time during the training period.

Training will last one month, allowing the moderators to train you for the position you are best suited for and allowing you to learn about basic moderating without the stress of focusing on one area right away.  If you only apply for one position, you will still be put through training, but the training will be focused more on the position you applied for.

Please keep in mind:  If at any point during or at the end of the training period the current administration feels you aren't suited to be a moderator, we will ask you to step down.  The training period is also your trial period to prove to us you have the qualities to be a moderator.

Why this now?

Sometimes being a moderator isn't what people expect it to be and you may decide the position you applied for, or even being a moderator entirely, isn't for you.  We want to make sure all mods are well prepared to deal with all situations comfortably while enjoying what they are doing.
What we are looking for
All moderators have the ability to "moderate" (clean / lock / delete threads) in the whole forum and give warnings for rule breaking. The only difference between the different types of moderators is their "focus" and expertise.
Art Shop Moderators | 3 Positions Open
Art Shop moderators focus mostly on art shops. It is an asset if you already browse the art shops (custom, premade, and free shops) on a regular basis. We just need people to look at shops and help clean up threads. Aside from that, Art Shop moderators also help with the reviewing of the Authentic Artist Applications.
Art Theft Moderators | 3 Positions Open
Art theft moderators will focus on scanning shops and other art threads for potentially stolen work. They will also be experts on identifying stolen artwork. This section somewhat overlaps with the art shop moderators' duties.
Event Coordinators | 2 Positions Open
Contest and Event moderators take care of things like Artist of the Moment and the Biweekly Challenge. They also plan other events and contests for the forum and ensure that everyone posting contests adheres to the forum rules.
Auction Moderator | 1 Position Open
Auction Moderators focus on auctions. Their job is to verify, approve and regulate auctions and update the auctions subforum, deleting and locking threads when they are over.

The Application Form
Below is the full form you will need to fill out. There will be a link you should use to fill out and submit your form via Google Forms.
If you prefer completing the whole application before submitting, we suggest you fill it in a seperate document before transfering it to the form.

CLICK HERE FOR THE APPLICATION FORM

*PLEASE NOTE

You can apply for all positions; just fill out the additional questions for any of the positions you wish to apply for.
In the end, if you are chosen and you applied for more than one position, you will be placed into the position we feel you are best suited for after the trial period.

Please take the time to think carefully and try to make your answers as clear and detailed as possible.

A rushed form is incredibly obvious, and it gives us a bad first impression of you.

ALSO: The first set of questions are general questions that need to be filled out for all moderator positions. After you have filled them out, there are more specific questions relating to the particular position(s) that you are applying for.

General Behavioral and Theft Questionnaire
For questions 1-5, you must describe what actions you would take in each situation. In the process, please do not forget to mention your reasoning / logic behind the actions you would take. For questions 6-8, you are given possible art theft scenarios. You must provide an explanation for why or why not you would consider the scenario as art theft. If you can find proof to back up your argument, please provide them. You may also reference the What We Consider Art Theft and the Consequences for Stealing thread in your explanations. Questions 1-7 must be completed by every moderator. We will not consider applications that fail to answer all 7 questions.

1. You have given a warning to someone for art theft. You bring this up with other moderators, and they agree it is theft, so you proceed with the proper disciplinary actions. Then, you get an angry PM from the person you gave the warning to, claiming it is unfair that they were accused of art theft when they have done nothing wrong!

How do you answer this?

2. You give a warning to a more popular artist. They begin ranting in their thread about the unfair treatment, and other users chime in to say how awful the staff are. Essentially, the popular artist has stretched the truth about why they got the warning in the first place.
How do you resolve this situation?

3. Suppose there is a post by a fairly new user. You've never seen their art before or on the forums; however, you cannot seem to find the suspicious-looking artwork anywhere - not even using Tinypic or Google images.

How do you handle this?

4. You see two people bickering in a thread. The conversation goes something like this…

Bob: Your art is sort of overpriced :/ it sucks for people who are like waaayyyyy better than you but charging 1/4 the price.
Artist: Well I price my stuff accordingly and I never have a problem picking up orders… If uh $3 is too much of a stretch for you maybe you shouldn't be on GASR in the first place lol. I would suggest anyone who is better than me to charge a lot more… I spend a long time and have put many years to develop my style to where it is today. I can really do without a customer like you.
Bob: Wow you are such an entitled asshole. Your work isn't even that good and insulting me on how much I can spend on the forum? You're rude and anyone who orders your art is just as awful as you are. Go die.

How would you handle this situation?

5. You see two people bickering in a thread. The conversation goes something like this…

Sally:  I can’t believe I missed another premade!  Some people are just so unfair to others!  Why can’t you let someone else have a shot at getting a premade, Bob!
Bob: Well, if you wanted the premade you should have claimed it faster.  I sit here and wait for updates just like the rest of you, so it’s not my fault I posted my form faster than you did.  There’s no need for you to be rude about it.
Sally:  That doesn’t matter!  I have a job, a life, things to do.. I can’t sit here and wait all day for the shop to be updated.  It’s unfair and you shouldn’t be allowed to claim anymore premades since you already have so many from this artist.  You’re the one being rude and inconsiderate, pal.
Bob:  I don’t know what you want me to tell you, but I suggest you stop bringing your bad attitude in here and get over it.  The premade is mine and if I claim the next one faster than you, you’ll just have to keep dealing with it.

C. A user is confused about the difference between the requests section and the custom art shop section.
What will your explanation be to them?

D. A user creates a thread in the request section. They claim they will compensate the artists who try it by only giving them credit for the art when using it.
How would you handle this situation?

E. A user creates a thread in the custom art shop section. The thread talks about the services they provide and links to an off-site website/forum/group/etc as the only option to commission custom work from them.
What would you do in this situation?

I know there's a lot of information in the first post, but I'm going to highlight the things that most people seem to overlook, so that you guys understand why your application may get denied.

  • Must have a minimum of 500 forum posts.
  • Must have been a member of GASR for at least 6 months.
  • Must be at least 15 years old.
  • Has not had any official warnings in the past 6 months.

There will be plenty of opportunities in the future for ya'll to apply if you don't have enough posts right now, or don't meet any of the other requirements, so don't fret.

+ Yes!  I'm hoping we get a lot of applicants since we made it easier this time around by using google forms!

Don't be scared to apply, give it your best shot.  You might just surprise yourself.
