So I've been working on this larger scale drawing, where the figure is dipping her feet in a river and is holding up the long skirt of her gown so it doesn't get wet.  When I try drawing the folds in the skirt where she is holding it up, it just doesn't look right.  Does anyone have any advice to drawing fabrics with multiple pleats or folds, or know of any helpful tutorials?

This is how fabric builds up. The shape is in the holding point of the fabric, if its small you'll have few folds, if she holds more fabric the folds add up more and more. But the first shape is how it all starts
