Today I realized that the kind of drawing I do now isn’t fun for me anymore.
It’s become a chore. It isn’t something that I do because I want to or because I like to, but because I have to.
I hate this thought/feeling, because I used to have so much fun drawing these chibis for everyone and I think when this kind of drawing isn't fun anymore I shouldn't force it
It's like... everytime I get excited to draw, but then I see my orders and other people's art and I just lose all motivation to do it ... :/

Does anyone recognize this feeling?
Does anyone feel anyone the same way?
Does anyone have some advice to make it fun again or to overcome this feeling?

I want to regain my pleasure in drawing again, can someone help me find it again?
Thanks in advance!

I understand you completely.
I started as a pixel artist, doing free orders for practice. I got to a point where I had so much to do that it was physically tiring to actually get on my laptop and draw stuff.
I simply let go of those orders and started doing my own thing for a while until I felt ready to draw for others again.
Though, I think what helped me most was changing. I stopped doing pixel art work and started painting and sketching other stuff, and nowadays I try a bit of everything. I rarely get artblocked now, because I can do pixels one day, and paintings the other so I won't be doing the same thing all the time.
Maybe it'd help you to change and vary your stuff, experiment you know? Try different chibis, or drawings, try new techniques. Draw for yourself, because the only way you'll enjoy and evolve as an artist is by exploring new stuff. Doing orders and selling is just a bonus. Just like every other job, you'll be much happier if you're doing what you like to do.

I think that's a good idea. It's helped me before too.
When I first came to GASR (old GASR) I only did (screenie-edit and portraits from scratch (all very imvu-based stuff) and it gave me a major artblock eventually (after 7 years or so)
then I started doing chibis last year and that helped me overcome my artblock, but by doing that I actually quit doing screenie edits
so now I'm back at where I started doing just one thing...

Thanks, I'm going to try that!

i know i aint going to be of any help but i think its so common it almost became normal that art becomes a chore once it becomes your main source of income (im only assuming its your source, im not really sure tho).
maybe you should try to set a certain goal in art. it works for me. and i consider to be in a worse situation than you are. because i never liked doing art for the sake of art, i like doing art for the sake of improving, if that makes sense. i just love seeing my palpable improvement.
but i dont understand why people dont allow themselves to get a new hobby. at least for a few months...

Ehh okay, thank you, I guess...
Art is more of a hobby for me, the money I earn by doing it is just a bonus (though my job/study is a creative one)
Since I'm very busy with school and other RL-stuff, Art used to be something relaxing for me
now it's become more like a chore, so I'd like it to go back to relaxing
I think it's too bad that you make art just to see yourself improve..

Thanks Mattie!
I defenitly will try something new (: I was thinking about teaching Sai to myself... I still work with Gimp and I have the feeling I want to do more than Gimp allows me to do
I think your meme-idea is very good, I hadn't thought about that yet!
Thank you so much!! and good luck with your starting artblock yourself :/
